EXCLUSIVE PRINT OF SAMMY SOSA'S 66TH HOME RUN BALL NOW AVAILABLE; PORTION OF SALES TO BENEFIT SOSA'S CHARITY OF CHOICE
ST. LOUIS, MO., DECEMBER 22, 1998... Just weeks after capturing an exclusive photograph of Mark McGwire's 70th home run baseball, photographer Don P. Marquess has shot the 66th home run ball hit by the National League's Most Valuable Player Sammy Sosa. The limited-edition, cibachrome print of the baseball is now available for sale at the Marquess Gallery located at 127 Union Station, St. Louis, Missouri.
The design of the print pays tribute to Sosa and his homeland by incorporating the theme of the Dominican Republic flag with Sosa's true love, baseball. The red, white and blue color combination of the 20-inch by 30-inch print beautifully captures the true spirit of baseball and the patriotism felt by baseball fans everywhere when Sosa hit his 66th home run during the unforgettable 1998 baseball season. The finished, framed print measures 27-inches by 37-inches.
Nationally recognized photographer, St. Louisian Don Marquess, received exclusive rights to photograph the baseball from Albert Chapa, the Houston, Texas resident who caught number 66. Sixty-six limited-edition cibachrome prints have been made and each is signed by Marquess and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
The cibachrome photo prints are available for $2500.00 each, and are on display at the Marquess Gallery located at 127 Union Station, St. Louis, Missouri. The 66th limited edition print will be given to Sosa as a gift for his contributions to baseball and as a reminder of his tremendous accomplishments and generosity. In addition $500.00 from the sale of each print will be donated to a charity of Sosa's choice or a charity supported by the Chicago Cubs.
In addition to the limited-edition cibachrome prints, 6,600 18-inch by 24-inch, fine-art prints of the photo also have been made and are available for $66.00 each. Each poster will bear the imprint "Official photograph of the #66 home run baseball as caught by Albert Chapa, September 25, 1998." Five dollars from the sale of each fine-art print also will go to Cub's charities or a charity of Sosa's choice.
"The 1998 baseball season was heightened by the home run derby between Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire, who both showed true sportsmanship and passion for the game of baseball. This endeavor allows us to pay tribute to both players and enables us to help other baseball fans own their own piece of history and help a truly worthy cause at the same time," said Marquess.
Marquess Gallery also has an impressive collection of other baseball images captured by Don Marquess during the height of the 1998 season, including an exclusive photo of the 70th home run baseball hit by Mark McGwire that was photographed and released earlier this month. Images of the home run baseball prints and Marquess' work can be viewed on the World Wide Web at www.baseballfineart.com.
